Canticle of the sun

by: Marty Haugen

The heavens are telling the glory of God,

And all creation is shouting for joy!

Come, dance in the forest, come, play in the field,

And sing, sing to the glory of the Lord!

Verse One

Praise for the sun, the bringer of day,

he carries the light of the Lord in his rays;

the moon and the stars who light up the way unto your throne!

Verse Two

Praise for the wind that blows through the trees,

the seas’ mighty storms, the gentlest breeze;

they blow where they will, they blow where they please to please the Lord!

Verse Three

Praise for the rain that waters our fields,

and blesses our crops so all the earth yields;

from death unto life her mystery revealed springs forth in joy!

Verse Four

Praise for the fire who gives us his light,

the warmth of the sun to brighten our night;

he dances with joy, his spirit so bright, he sings of you!

Presider: The Lord be with you.

People : And also with you.

Presider: Let us pray.

Lord, we pray that your grace may always precede and follow us, that we may continually be given to good works; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David– that is my gospel, for which I suffer hardship, even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, so that they may also obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory. The saying is sure: If we have died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him; if we deny him, he will also deny us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful– for he cannot deny himself. Remind them of this, and warn them before God that they are to avoid wrangling over words, which does no good but only ruins those who are listening. Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved by him, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, rightly explaining the word of truth.

Lector The Word of the Lord.

People Thanks be to God.

PSALM Remain Seated

Psalm 111

  • 1  Alleluia! I will give thanks to you, O God, with my whole heart, *
    in the assembly of the upright, in the congregation.
  • 2  Great are your deeds, O God; *
    they are studied by all who delight in them.

  • 3  Your work is full of majesty and splendor, * and your righteousness endures for ever.
  • 4  You make your marvelous works to be remembered; * you are gracious and full of compassion.
  • 5  You give food to those who fear you; * you are ever mindful of your covenant.
  • 6  You have shown your people the power of your works * in giving them the lands of the nations.
  • 7  The works of your hands are faithfulness and justice; * all your commandments are sure.
  • 8  They stand fast for ever and ever, * because they are done in truth and equity.
  • 9  You sent redemption to your people;
    you commanded your covenant for ever; * holy and awesome is your Name.

  • 10  The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom; *
    those who act accordingly have a good understanding; God’s praise endures for ever.

HOLY GOSPEL Remain standing

Priest The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Luke.

People Glory to you, Lord Christ.

On the way to Jerusalem Jesus was going through the region between Samaria and Galilee. As he entered a village, ten lepers approached him. Keeping their distance, they called out, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When he saw them, he said to them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were made clean. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice. He prostrated himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him. And he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus asked, “Were not ten made clean? But the other nine, where are they? Was none of them found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?” Then he said to him, “Get up and go on your way; your faith has made you well.”

People: Praise to you, Lord Christ.

SERMON Seated   The Rev.Kelly Kirby

BCP p.358

We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

From all that dwell below the skies   David Haas

From all that dwell below the skies, let the Creator’s praise arise!
Let the Redeemer’s Name be sung through every land, by every tongue!

Eternal are thy mercies, Lord,
and truth eternal is thy word:
Thy praise shall sound from shore to shore till suns shall rise and set no more.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow, Praise him all creatures here below, Praise him above ye heavenly hosts, Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost.

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

One bread, one body, one Lord of all, one cup if blessing which we bless.

And we, though many through out the earth,

we are one body in this one Lord.

Prayer of St. Francis

Sebastian Temple

Verse 1:

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love. Where there is injury, your pardon, Lord,
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

Verse 2:

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope. Where there is darkness only light,
And where there’s sadness ever joy.

Oh Master, grant that I may never seek

So much to be consoled as to console.

To be understood as to understand,

To be loved as to love with all my soul.

Verse 3:

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
In giving of ourselves that we receive,
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.
