Episcopal Church General Convention starts June 25

The 78th General Convention of The Episcopal Church is coming up from June 25 – July 3, 2015, in Salt Lake City.

Held once every three years, General Convention is the system that the Episcopal Church uses to govern itself. This year, we’ll elect a new Presiding Bishop to a nine-year-term, and many other church issues will be on the table for the House of Bishops and the House of Deputies, which includes lay people, deacons and priests.

St. Matthew’s Director of Youth Ministry Lynn Miller will be attending the Convention as a delegate.

This Convention will mostly focus on “structural and other changes to support mission and ministry for the 21st century,” according toThe Rev. Canon Michael Barlowe, Executive Officer of General Convention.

The official website for the General Convention is generalconvention.org. And Scott Gunn, who preached at St. Matthew’s in April, is devoting a lot of space on his Seven Whole Days blog to discussing items under consideration at the Conventions. You can read about them here.
