Annual Hunger Walk and food collection is Sept. 14

Help St. Matthew’s Put Hunger on the Run!

The 36th Annual Hunger Walk – “Miles for Meals” – is early this year. Sunday September 14th St. Matthew’s will have a one-day blitz collecting donations after all three services for the Dare to Care Food Bank and the World Food Program.

Dare to Care provides food for our own Food Bank here at St. Matthew’s. For every dollar you donate, Dare to Care provides food for 4 meals to local children, families, and seniors in need, and 94 cents of every dollar donated goes directly to provide meals.

Last year's Hunger Walkers from St. Matthew's

St. Matthew’s parishioners participate in last year’s Hunger Walk.

In the past, St. Matthew’s has raised over $1,000 each fall to help relieve hunger in our community and around the world. Although it will be more difficult to raise that amount in only one day, I am confident St. Matthew’s can still make a significant contribution to help provide food for people in need.

PLEASE NOTE: the walk has been moved due to bridge construction. The Festival, registration, and start/finish are at The Belvedere. The route goes down historic Main Street, circles the Portland Revitalization Project, and is lined with entertainment. Parishioners and friends who would like to participate in the walk should meet at on The Belvedere near the tables where t-shirts are distributed at 2:00 p.m.

All donation checks need to be made out to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church with “Hunger Walk” written on the “notes” line. Checks may be mailed to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church or given to volunteers who will be colleting donations after each service on September 14th.
