On Sunday, June 19, St. Matthew’s hosted an interfaith prayer service for victims of the June 12 mass shootings at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, in conjunction with Interfaith Paths to Peace, Muslim Americans for Compassion and others.
Speakers included The Rt. Rev. Terry White, Episcopal Bishop of the Dioceses of Kentucky; Rabbi Gaylia Rooks and Shyama Iyer from the Temple; Dr. Muhammad Babar from Muslim Americans for Compassion Anne Walter and Geshe Rapgyal from the Drepung Gomang Center for Compassion; Haleh Karimi from Interfaith Paths to Peace; Rev. Elwood Sturtevant from Thomas Jefferson Unitary Church; The Very Rev. Joan Pritcher from Christ Church Cathedral; The Rev. Bojangles Blanchard from Highland Baptist Church and our own rector, The Rev. Kelly Kirby. Music was provided by Louisville Master Chorale, Voces Novae, The Louisville Gay Men’s Chorus, St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church Choir and the Highland Presbyterian and Central Presbyterian churches.
