The SUMMA Theological Debate Society (Summer Camp)
The SUMMA Theological Debate Society is an opportunity for high school students to build their faith through intellectual channels. Held every summer on the campus of Sewanee, the University of the South (Sewanee, TN) SUMMA Camp offers a rich, uniquely meaningful experience that provides teens with
Knowledge of the Christian theological tradition;
Skill in public speaking and debate;
Cutting-edge engagement with topics such as religion and science, social ethics, and interfaith relations
This comes with fun, friendship, and the opportunity for a deepened and more thoughtful faith
SUMMA Camp’s classroom atmosphere is college-like, with challenging lectures and stimulating seminar discussions. Camp is not all work, though! Laughter is resonant in the classrooms and dorms, and there is plenty of time for soccer, basketball, games, movies, and even bowling. Each day begins and ends with prayer and contemplative reflection. “Speaking truth in love” is a practice followed throughout the camp.

High School (9-12th)
With the invitation of The Rt. Rev. Kee Sloan from the Episcopal Diocese of Alabama, Province IV Youth Ministries is offering a four-day experience for 9th – 12th graders and for adults who accompany them on their journey of faith. We will host the event in the air-conditioned cabins of Bethany Village at Camp McDowell, with a day trip to immerse ourselves in the historical truths of the Civil Rights movement in Birmingham, Alabama. We will work together to build an understanding of social injustice that will help all participants develop a vision and the skills to lead their dioceses’ programming around race and inclusivity. In response to the mandate by General Convention to Response to Systemic Racial Injustice, Province IV seeks to educate and empower young people to be disciples of justice and change. We will “strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being.” (Book of Common Prayer, p. 292, Baptismal Covenant).
