St. Matthew's Health Ministry

The Health Ministry at St. Matthews is a sustainable ministry designed to serve parishioners and the wider Louisville community in matters of physical and mental well-being.  Currently, there are four aspects of the ministry, described below.

Alzheimer's Caregivers' Support Group

Credentialed Medical Assistance

Our Alzheimer’s Association Caregivers' Support Group meets the 3rd Wednesday of the month at 11a in Meeting Room A. This group is for members of the St. Matthew’s congregation as well as persons from the Louisville Metro area. Our parishioner, The Rev. Dr. Georgine Buckwalter, has 3 decades of service with both the Alzheimer's Association and with long term care in the Louisville community. All resources of the Alzheimer’s Association are available through this ministry inside and outside our doors. There are also various volunteer opportunities to work with our church library and manage paperwork. If you have questions regarding the group or would like to be contacted by The Rev. Dr. Georgine Buckwalter, click the button below.
If you’ve ever left your doctor’s office and have realized, belatedly, that you have more questions, St. Matthew's has credentialed medical professionals who have volunteered to help. We have licensed medical professionals (MD, DO, PA, PA-C, RN, NP) who will help you interpret your after-visit summary and unpack and better understand the next steps for care that you receive from your health care professionals. If you could benefit from this service, please call the parish office.

Grief Ministry

Vaccine Clinic

St. Matthews offers a healing place for those who are grieving loss, however recent or past. On Wednesdays at 10a, we gather in Myll Chapel for the Healing Eucharist. As needed, a small number of lay people may also gather after the Eucharist for conversation and comfort. Our goal is to find connection in times of suffering, loss, and confusion.

A Walgreens-led vaccine clinic offers flu and
COVID protection for the mid-fall and winter
  season.  Both parishioners and community
members are invited to participate. The clinic
will be announced in the eSpirit and held in
  Saints Hall.

Past Events

In November, St. Matthew's, in partnership with the Alzheimer's Association hosted the Old Timey Harvest Hymn Sing. This free intergenerational event was open to parishioners and the local community. Folks from other traditions joined to sing old songs because "Music is memory's best friend."
The Final Affairs Fair was held on November 9 following the 10a service. Parishioners received useful information from experts on everything, from downsizing and liquidating property and assets to learning about the ways to use wills, IRAs, and retirement plans for distributing property after death to planning for a memorial service with Kelly and Robert.
